Biography

Rosalea Monacella, PhD, is an academic at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in the Landscape Architecture Program, an architect, and a registered landscape architect. Her research focuses on the techno-ecological indexing and reshaping of the city region through the notion of the ‘thickened ground’ that describes the metabolism and material flows that generate the urban landscape vertically from the depths of the earth through to atmospheric heights, and across an expanded ecology of political, economic, social, and environmental systems. Through this framework, speculations on alternative near-future landscapes explore innovative responses to climate change, shifting resource demands, and ecologies of energy.
